about

I wrote this song for my friend, Matty Burchett who was a firefighter who was killed during the Summer of 2018. There were massive wildfires in California and he was tasked as a part of a Utah Team to help the California firefighters put out the blaze. He paid for it with his life. This song is my tribute to him and his sacrifice. He left behind his wife, Heather and his song Griffin.

lyrics

If I just keep holding on
I won't forget that you’re gone
So far away, yet you feel near
Almost like your you’re standing here

Chorus

Twas the summer of 18'
The wildfires were mean
Burnt houses, burnt treasures
The human cost can’t be measured

You left us before your time
While you were in your prime
That heavy drop from a plane
Took your very last day

Chorus

You gave a lot, you gave it all
You stepped up answered the call
Fighting fire and saving life
You left behind your child and a wife

When you left that morning ---California bound
We didn't know you wouldn't be back home
Now we're wondering what went wrong
We’re trying our best to stay strong

Without you....
